Edward’s passion for nature started virtually at birth, with a rich farming heritage on both sides of his family tree, Edward spent his childhood on this family’s farm where he developed a strong passion for nature. This passion and the desire to rely to the world how he sees it is at the very heart of his work.
The driving desire behind Edward’s images is to bring to the viewer a feeling of awe and inspiration that he feels when creating the images, to give the viewer a sense of being there and experiencing that moment of wonder with him.
The “secret” to creating great images is to start with great light. Edward’s images are known for having a vibrant but gentle, soft glow to them that captures the eye. To achieve this quality of light Edward generally create his images even before the day has begun for most people (photographers included), as capturing a beautiful sunrise often requires a 4am wake-up call and a brisk hike through the cool morning air before arriving at his destination to set up his tripod and wait for the perfect light. During the summer a day creating images doesn’t end until well after the sun has set and the hike back to the car in the dark is completed, often after 10pm, all to start again as the sun rises in just a few short hours.
Edward continues to create his fine art images on fine grain medium format film to ensure the highest quality possible for large prints and murals. After development Edward selects the best images to be scanned at extremely high resolution, capturing all the detail and depth the image has to offer before applying traditional darkroom techniques via image editing software. Once the image is completed it is printed on traditional light sensitive photographic paper, exposed with laser light to ensure the sharpest image possible and developed in traditional wet chemistry. This process ensures the highest quality photographic print possible.
